The Shanghai Marriage Market is a marriage market held at People’s Square in Shanghai, China. This market is held every Saturday and Sunday from mid day to 5 p.m. A large number of Parents of unmarried adults visit the park to find a suitable life partner for their children. According to local people, this market at People’s Square has existed since 2004.

In many parents’ eyes, in a big metropolitan cities like shanghai, parent matchmaking gatherings such as the Shanghai Marriage Market are the only way to uphold a traditional dating style for their children. Though Chinese social culture is changing big time with rapid financial growth and mass movement from rural to urban centers, China’s long idealized tradition of continuing their family lineage is still very important within Chinese culture.
